Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry manufacturer of patent re-tripping problem. Previously RIM had to give up the name of BBX for the latest operating system because it has been patented by other companies. This time, the term BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) who has used a BlackBerry user since 2005, was sued by a Canadian company.
Broadcast Measurement Firm, BBM Canada sued RIM acronyms related to the use of fuel in one of their software. BlackBerry Messenger software enables BlackBerry subscribers can send short messages to other BlackBerry users without charge. BBM also allows users to send messages to many users of fuel in one group.
BBM Canada, originally called the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement, until eventually shortened to BBM Canada in 1960. BBM Canada’s Chief Executive, Jim MacLeod, in an interview with Reuters, said he had delivered a request to RIM in order to meet the co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie to discuss this further.
When contacted the CNet, the RIM said that the two services can share a name, with an entirely different service. According to him, these two names “have the requirement to co-exist under Canadian trademark law” and that RIM will dismiss the complaint filed law firm BBM Canada.
